Iyengar Yoga Teacher Training Program
Yogacharya Sri B.K.S. Iyengar has developed what has come to be called Iyengar Yoga from a firm spiritual, philosophical and practical base. Iyengar Yoga is a way of life, rather than a physical activity. Before being accepted onto a teacher training course a candidate should therefore not only have achieved a high standard in his/her personal practice in the Introductory asanas, but also have a preliminary awareness of the subtlety of Iyengar Yoga and its philosophy.
Iyengar Yoga is taught in over 70 countries worldwide. Certified teachers are listed in the official BKS Iyengar website www.bksiyengar.com in accordance with International Iyengar Yoga teaching standards .
How is an Iyengar Teacher Trained
All teachers are trained to rigorously high standards. After undertaking a two year teacher training program, candidates apply to go through an assessment process that includes recommendations by mentoring teachers and a comprehensive, three-part examination that includes
- show proficiency in performance of the asanas, or postures
- take a written exam on philosophy, anatomy, and practical knowledge of teaching.
- The candidate is observed teaching a class and assessed by a panel of senior teachers.
Successful candidates will be granted Introductory Level II Certificate by Ramamani Iyengar Memorial Yoga Institute, Pune, India and allows the teachers to teach a specified range of Introductory asanas (postures). Once qualified teachers must be a Teacher member of the Iyengar Yoga Association of Indonesia and will be granted the use the official Iyengar Certification Mark, as a guarantee of Iyengar high teaching standard
Pre Teacher Training
The purpose of the pre-teacher training is to build a firm foundation and prepares you to experience the full range of asanas required for Introductory II before embarking on teaching yoga to others. It will also allow you to develop awareness of your body which will eventually maximize your yoga practice.
